Cleansing: the first step towards healthy, balanced skin.

Why is clean skin so important?
Cleansing is the foundation of any daily skincare routine. It determines not only how your skin looks today, but also how it will look years from now.

Throughout the day, the skin is exposed to polluted air, dust, hand contact, sweat, sebum, make-up, and SPF. These impurities gradually accumulate and can clog pores or disrupt the skin’s natural balance. The result may be inflammation, increased sensitivity, or premature ageing.

Only thoroughly cleansed skin can effectively absorb active ingredients from serums and creams. When the surface is congested, beneficial ingredients simply cannot work to their full potential.

Proper cleansing does not mean stripping the skin. The goal is to remove impurities while preserving the natural protective barrier and microbiome balance.

1 — When should we cleanse the skin?

Ideally, cleanse your skin twice a day – morning and evening.

Morning cleansing
During the night, the skin undergoes regeneration. Sebum, sweat, and dead skin cells accumulate on the surface. Morning cleansing removes these residues and prepares the skin for hydrating and protective products.

A gentle gel is ideal for morning cleansing, as it respects the skin barrier.

SKIN BARRIER CLEANSER – Barrier-preserving cleansing gel
Suitable as a morning cleansing step. It cleanses thoroughly without tightness or disrupting the skin’s natural balance.

COOL MICELLAR WATER – Refreshing micellar water
A great alternative when travelling or for a quick morning routine. After use, it’s best to rinse the face with water.

After cleansing, apply PH BALANCING TONER – pH-balancing toner, which helps restore harmony and prepares the skin for serum and day cream.

Evening cleansing – the foundation of regeneration
Evening cleansing is essential. Throughout the day, the skin collects not only visible impurities but also micro-particles of pollution and SPF residue. If left on the skin, they can interfere with natural overnight regeneration and increase the risk of inflammation.

This is why double cleansing is recommended.

2 — What does āla Palla double cleansing look like?

Double cleansing ensures all impurities are removed without compromising the skin barrier.

Step 1 – Removing make-up and surface impurities
The aim of the first step is to dissolve make-up, sebum, and surface dirt.

Depending on your skin’s needs, choose from:
GENTLE OLEOGEL CLEANSER – Microbiome-friendly cleansing oleogel
Dissolves make-up and SPF while respecting the natural microbiome. Suitable for dry or sensitive skin.

MILKY MAKEUP REMOVER – Gentle cleansing milk

A soothing option for dry, sensitive, or mature skin.

COOL MICELLAR WATER – Refreshing micellar water
A practical choice for removing surface impurities. Rinse with water afterwards.

Step 2 – Deep cleansing and barrier support
This step removes any remaining impurities and prepares the skin for night-time regeneration.

SKIN BARRIER CLEANSER – Barrier-preserving cleansing gel
A gentle gel that cleanses thoroughly without tightness. Ideal as the second step in your evening routine.

After rinsing, gently pat the skin dry and apply PH BALANCING TONER, to complete the cleansing process and restore balance.

3 — How to choose the right products?

Your cleansing product should suit not only your skin type but also its current condition. Dry, sensitive, or reactive skin needs a different approach than oily or blemish-prone skin.

  • Micellar water – great as a first cleansing step or for quick morning refreshment.
  • Cleansing milk – ideal for dry, sensitive, or mature skin.
  • Cleansing gel – suitable for sensitive, normal, or combination skin.
  • Oleogel – a good choice for dryness or a compromised barrier.
  • Toner – completes cleansing, balances pH, and prepares the skin for further care.

Avoid harsh products that overly strip the skin. They can weaken the protective barrier and paradoxically increase oil production.

4 — Deep cleansing and exfoliation

Once or twice a week, include gentle exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and support skin renewal.

āla Palla offers two options:

SUPERFRUIT ENZYME PEEL – Enzyme fruit peel

Gentle exfoliation without mechanical friction. Suitable even for sensitive skin.

EXFOLIATING COCONUT SCRUB – Coconut exfoliating scrub
Mechanical exfoliation for skin that tolerates fine abrasive particles and needs more intensive smoothing.

Daily exfoliation is not recommended. Overuse can weaken the skin barrier and increase sensitivity.

A tip for the warmer months
During hot days or exercise, the skin becomes oilier and sweatier. Moist skin also traps impurities more easily.

A gentle additional cleanse – for example, after a workout using micellar water or a mild gel – can help calm the skin and keep it fresh throughout the day.

Final thoughts
Effective cleansing is not about the number of products but about consistency, gentleness, and respecting the skin’s needs.

When the skin is properly cleansed and its barrier remains intact, every subsequent step in your routine can work to its full potential. Long-term balance comes from regular, thoughtful care – not aggressive treatments.
